Completed in 1572, Humayun's Tomb introduced the charbagh layout and sandstone-marble mix that Shah Jahan would perfect 69 years later on the banks of the Yamuna with the Taj Mahal.
Commissioned by Humayun's first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum, it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, marking a magnificent leap in Mughal architecture.
